Technology is destroying the English language

I disagree. I think that English is starting to evolve and adapt to people’s life styles. I wouldn’t consider it as destroying.

Technology has given us a shortcut in the way we speak online for example the majority of people would rather say u instead of you or yh instead of yes , these are know as abbreviations which have been around before technology.

I personally abbreviate when I’m texting because it’s way quicker and I understand it so it doesn’t make a difference for me. I also speak slang from time to time but it’s normally to friends and I’m normally conscious when I’m using it because if I was to speak to a teacher like that I would probably get in trouble.

People would normally say that slang is mostly used by young people but that is incorrect because most adults use slang and this new thing called emojis which is a simpler and more efficient way in sharing emotions.

Emojis also known as emoticons is a cartoon based emotion which is a quicker way of texting for example inset ad of saying in happy you could say ? Which is a way quicker way.

I understand why some people might think that slang or abbreviating or emojis is making us lazy or destroying the English language because some of these abbreviated words have made it into the English dictionary for example selfie which means taking a picture of your self.

As you can see I have left out the question mark on the question are you coming today, now that was done on purpose because it was seen as to long and I knew Lynden would understand anyway. I also abbreviated

  1. Adam,

I’m quite surprised that each of your paragraphs is only one sentence long.

Have you analysed a transcript of your speech and a conversation across text/social media? If so, what patterns have you noticed?

You must analyse four elements of language in your own speech/communications.
